A few kilometres north-west of Bounty, two more coral cays sit side by side, each completely encircled by sand. From the beach of one you look straight at the other.
Treasure Island (Elevuka) is a long-established family resort that occupies the whole cay, with beachfront bures and a turtle conservation programme that children help with. Beachcomber Island (Tai) earned a reputation from the 1960s onwards as the place young travellers came to dance barefoot on a sand-floored bar. Its overnight offering has changed over the years, so check what is currently open; by day it is a lovely, simple cay visited by cruise.
Top things to do: Treasure Island & Beachcomber Island
Walk the circumference
Either island takes ten to fifteen minutes to walk around on the sand. Do it at sunrise, when the mainland mountains turn pink.
Snorkel the marine reserve
The reef around the islands has long been protected by local agreement, and fish are plentiful and unafraid. The small wreck of the Salamanda nearby is a popular beginner dive.
Meet the turtles
Treasure Island raises hatchling turtles before release as part of its conservation work — one of the things younger guests remember longest.

How to get to Treasure Island & Beachcomber Island
- By catamaran: South Sea Cruises ferries from Port Denarau call at both islands; the ride is usually under an hour.
- By day cruise: a Beachcomber Island day cruise with snorkelling runs from Denarau — see day cruises.
Insider tips
- These are small islands: you will hear the generator and see your neighbours. That is the trade-off for sand at every door.
- Treasure Island suits young families especially well — the sea is shallow and the whole island is the playground.
- Confirm Beachcomber’s overnight status directly before planning a stay.
