Where to stay in the Mamanuca Islands

In the Mamanucas the island is the hotel. Here is how to choose both at once.

Most Mamanuca islands hold one resort, or two or three at most, and there is nothing else on them — no town to walk to, no other restaurants. So the resort you choose decides your beach, your meals, your neighbours and your mood. It is worth ten minutes of thought.

We group the options three ways: the Malolo group, with the widest choice and the easiest ferries; the other islands, from Castaway and Mana to the honeymoon islands of the north; and the mainland around Denarau and Nadi, where many trips start or end with a night. All links go to Trip.com for live rates. We print no prices because they change daily.

Before you book: check the minimum age (several resorts are adults-only), what the meal plan costs, and how the transfer works for your flight times. Our island chooser and transfer guide help with all three.

Booking tips

  • Book school holidays early. Family resorts sell out for July, late September and Christmas up to a year ahead.
  • Compare meal plans. A cheaper room with a compulsory meal plan can cost more than a dearer room that includes food.
  • Ask about the transfer. The room rate rarely includes the ferry, water taxi or flight; get the total before you commit.
  • Split your stay. Two islands in one week is easy — see island-hopping.
  • Look at the shoulder months. May, June, October and November often bring the best mix of weather and price — see when to visit.

Not staying on an island?

Plenty of visitors sleep on Denarau or in Nadi and see the Mamanucas by day cruise. It is cheaper, more flexible and lets you sample a different island each day.

Accommodation links go to Trip.com. If an affiliate arrangement is in place we may earn a commission on bookings, at no extra cost to you. Seventeen of the island properties and all seven mainland ones link to their verified Trip.com page; Treasure Island and Navini were not found in Trip.com’s listing, so those two links open a search.
Plan your island days

Twenty islands, one very blue lagoon

Sail to a sandbank, snorkel a coral garden, eat pizza on a floating bar or spend the day at an island resort. Compare day cruises from Port Denarau and book in a couple of taps.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best resort in the Mamanuca Islands?

There is no single best. Likuliku, Tokoriki, Vomo and Six Senses lead at the luxury end; Castaway and Plantation for families; Mana’s lodges for budgets.

Are there overwater bungalows in the Mamanucas?

Yes — Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Malolo has overwater bures. It is adults-only.

Are Mamanuca resorts all-inclusive?

A few include all meals (Likuliku, Vomo, Tadrai among them). Most sell meal plans separately; drinks are usually extra.

Should I spend a night on Denarau?

If your flight arrives after early afternoon or leaves before late morning, yes — it removes the risk of a missed connection.

Is there budget accommodation?

Yes: dorms and simple rooms on Mana, a surf lodge on Malolo and a simple resort on Bounty Island, plus hostels at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi.
